This infection is usually spread through sexual contact. This is a common and easily transmitted infection which can affect men as well as women and this virus will be encountered by the majority of people at some point in their lives without ever knowing, as our natural immune systems can clear the infection. However, around 80% of sexually active women are expected to become infected with HPV by the age of 50.

Even though screening for early detection of cervical cancer is available, it is still the second most common cause of death from female cancer (second to breast cancer) and statistics show that of young women between the ages of 15 – 45 in Europe, around 33,500 are diagnosed with cervical cancer, each year and that around 14,700 women die, each year, from this disease.

However, if further tests are recommended by your Consultant such as blood tests, these would be charged as an additional cost.
