Punch biopsy is a technique where suspicious skin lesions or rashes are investigated by taking a small sample of skin under local anaesthetic. One or two sutures are used usually dissolving to repair the wounds. The sample is then taken for pathological analysis. These samples are usually stained with H & E staining and on rare occasions when we investigate conditions such as blistering disorders, special staining’s such as Immunofluorescence studies are requested.
