Hair Loss & Alopecia
Alopecia (hair loss) is caused when the cells in your immune system surround and attack your hair follicles and management of alopecia depends on accurate diagnosis. Your consultant will take a detailed history of the problem along with a clinical examination. There are many different reasons for hair loss which the consultant will need to identify, such as illness or stress for instance or scarring alopecia, which could cause permanent hair loss.
Management of Alopecia may involve cosmetic as well as medical treatments.
Treatments
- Treatment will depend on clinical diagnosis by the Consultant Dermatologist
- Some conditions may resolve spontaneously such as acute telogen effluvium
- Alopecia areata (patchy) may also resolve without treatment
- Other disorders may require treatment/medication, either topial or systematics
- We also offer topical diphencyprone therapy for selected patients who suffer from alopecia areata
We also offer topical therapies, topical contact sensitisation therapy which is topical diphencyprone, injections to specific lesions including steroids and also systemic therapy ranging from systemic corticosteroids to assist in the immunosuppressant and immunomodulatory therapies.
