Eczema Treatment
Eczema is a long lasting condition which can occur at any age but is particularly found in children. The skin condition known as Atopic eczema causes skin to become red and itchy, flaky and dry, and is mainly found on elbows, back of knees and on hands, causing discomfort and disruption to your daily life.
Treatments Include:
- Antiseptic preparations–reducing bacteria to the skin
- Antibiotic creams if skin is infected
- Alternative steroid creams
- Topical steroid creams treating soreness and weeping, itching, redness.
- Topical emollients (moisturises) acting as an effective barrier, moistening the skin
- Application of dressings and bandages to help creams penetrate the skin
- Phototherapy
Severe Eczema
With close supervision and monitoring by the Consultant Dermatologist, a choice of other Immuno suppressive medications, could be prescribed. Your Consultant will advise.
