The range of medical conditions covered by Dermatology is extremely large and deals with conditions such as and including: Acne, Eczema, Psoriasis and rashes, through to the most worrying conditions such as skin cancers. Dermatology is a specialism and if you are concerned about an issue which affects your skin in the form of either a rash, a spot, a lump, dry areas or patches of rough skin, you should get an expert opinion from a specialist skin consultant at Sheffield Dermatology.
A Consultant Dermatologist will have undergone basic medical training in the UK for between 6 to 8years and from that point specialist training begins.Dependant on which branch of dermatology has been chosen, this can then take up to a further 4 to 9 years training. A qualified Dermatologist Consultant will be listed in the Specialist Register of the General MedicalCouncil (GMC) which is there to protect patients and ensure all standards are met. You will find in this Register, Sheffield Dermatology, Dr. Vinod Elangasinghe, (founder of Sheffield Dermatology).
Firstly the Consultant will want to discuss your medical history, I.e. current medication, diet and general fitness. Also possibly a full body skin check may be carried out if necessary. However, if there is evidence of say, a rash in one specific area of your body, then a full check may not be required. Tests also maybe done on your initial visit such as a blood analysis, but if more extensive tests are required, a further appointment may be made. The consultant will then let you know once the results have been returned to discuss what treatment comes next.
